Quit Smoking Without Gaining Weight
Many people who are contemplating giving up smoking are concerned about gaining weight. In fact, many people claim to smoke so that they can stay thin. However, with all of the negative, health related side effects associated with smoking, doing it to stay thin doesn’t make very much sense. There are many other more healthful ways to stay thin.

One way to ensure that one doesn’t gain weight when they stop smoking is to make sure that all of the junk foods are thrown out of the house and replaced with healthy foods and snacks. There is little doubt that you will be spending more time in the kitchen looking for things to snack on since you are no longer smoking. You have to be careful because it is easy to replace one bad habit with another, including consuming lots of salty, sweet foods that are high in empty calories. If these foods aren’t on hand, it’s harder to consume them. Having lots of bottled water, juices, fruits, nuts, vegetables and lean meats are a great way to eat healthy and avoid gaining weight. Purchase a low-fat cookbook and practice cooking some delicious, low calorie and low fat recipes so that even after you have quit smoking, you can stay thin.
You will also need to fill the time that you would normally spend smoking with more productive activities. Exercise is one way to do that. Going on a jog, a walk or lifting weights is one way to replace the time that you would usually spend smoking. Exercise also helps you avoid gaining weight because you are being active. In fact, you might even lose weight.
Another great way to avoid gaining weight after you have quit smoking is to invest in taking some healthy cooking courses. You are bound to find some affordable classes in your community. You may also develop a new habit that will be so engaging and fulfilling that you don’t think about what you are missing by giving up smoking.
Most people do end up gaining weight after they give up smoking. This is because they often stop smoking but start taking up other behaviors that are just as harmful and promote weight gain such as eating poorly or drinking to deal with the stress of not smoking. These behaviors add on the pounds pretty quickly. Instead, by heating healthy, and exercising, one can avoid putting on weight. In fact, if they follow these guidelines, they will be able to not just keep their weight steady but even lose a few pounds.
