Acupuncture to Quit Smoking
Acupuncture is considered by many people to be an alternative smoking cessation therapy. However, it is becoming more common. Acupuncture can be effective in helping to decrease the symptoms of withdrawal in both drug and smoking addicts.
Many times after people have tried the traditional approaches to stop smoking, such as nicotine replacement therapy or going cold turkey, then they may begin to consider acupuncture or something a little bit out of the norm. Now acupuncture won’t necessarily allow you to stop smoking after one session. However, it purports to help make the process much easier. If you visit an acupuncturist, they will make a plan specifically for you. However, there are some common body points that they will focus on to help you quit smoking. These include the ear, which they believe has some effect on the lungs, the kidneys and they will also target your master point zero, which is believed to help balance the body. Acupuncturist also will focus on your wrists, which is supposed to contain a specific point that will help you stop smoking.
Acupuncture usually involves more than one treatment session. Some of programs will require at least five. Some clinics will have you fill out a questionnaire that asks you quite a few questions concerning when you smoke and why you smoke. They may also take a blood pressure reading and even test your lungs. They will consider your answers to these questions and then they will come up with a specific acupuncture plan for you.
A session doesn’t take long it’s usually around 30 minutes. In between your sessions, you may be given some type of supplements or herbs to help you a deal with withdrawals or cravings. Other clinics may also give you a list of foods to avoid and encourage you to start some type of exercise plan. The price of acupuncture geared toward smoking cessation varies, it can cost as much as $500, to much lower. If you look around, you may be able to find a plan that is cheaper and this typically does not include any herbs of that may be prescribed.
