Quit Smoking Tips

Quitting smoking is very difficult even for the most iron willed individual. That’s because besides the incredibly addicting power of nicotine, there are social and mental and hurdles that must also be cleared so that one can give up smoking for good.

Experts believe that nicotine is just as addicting as hard core drugs such as cocaine and heroin. What makes it even more dangerous is that cigarettes are completely legal and inexpensive compared to their illegal counterparts.

The public is becoming more adverse to smoking and campaigns against nicotine and cigarettes are constantly being shown seen on television. The dangers of second hand smoking are also causing cities and public facilities to crack down on smoking in public. However, it is still an acceptable addiction.

Even though smoking may be socially acceptable, it is still incredibly dangerous to both the smoker and the individuals who spend time with them. For individuals who need help, here are some tips.

Quit Smoking Tips

  1. Develop A Plan: Unless you are one of the few people who can simply go cold turkey, it is important to develop a plan. This will help you overcome the withdrawal symptoms and cravings that will no doubt dog you. A good plan will include how you will handle the period of time when your body is suffering from nicotine withdrawals, what you will do to handle cravings and perhaps people or places to avoid.
  2. Develop Hobbies: You will need to come up with things to do instead of smoking. If you don’t fill up the time that you usually spend smoking with something else, it will be very easy to begin smoking again, even if it is due to boredom. Keep your hands and mind busy, so you don’t think about smoking.
  3. Exercise: Many people worry that they will gain weight if they stop smoking. One way to avoid this is to be sure to get plenty of exercise. Exercise will also take up time so that you won’t be able to smoke. It’s nearly impossible to smoke and exercise at the same time. Another benefit is that you will tone and strengthen your body, which will make you feel better about yourself and motivate you not to smoke.
  4. Eat Healthy: Eating healthy will also help you avoid gaining weight. Many people claim smoking helps them stay thin, well, eating healthy accomplishes the same thing and it is much better for your body.
  5. Avoid Triggers: You will be tempted to begin smoking again. To give you the best chance of being successful, you will need to avoid people and places that trigger urges to smoke.
